Eiffage Énergie Systèmes delivers 11 substations for the OMVG interconnection loop

The OMVG (Organisation pour la mise en valeur du fleuve Gambie) is a sub-regional organization for cooperation and integration comprising Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea and Senegal. Eiffage Group's Energy division has just completed construction of 225/30 kV transformer substations as part of the OMVG energy project, in a consortium with Elecnor, a leading Spanish player in infrastructure and renewable energies.

Eiffage Énergie Systèmes delivers 11 substations for the OMVG interconnection loop

The contract to build eleven 225/30 kV transformer substations signed in equal parts by Eiffage Énergie Systèmes and Elecnor is a key component of a comprehensive energy project to generate renewable electricity at a competitive rate. According to the program's description, the OMVG is based on : "the rational and harmonious exploitation of common hydroelectric resources in the Gambia, Kayanga-Géba and Koliba-Corubal river basins", by interconnecting the 225 kV networks between Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea and Senegal.

This "turnkey" contract (including studies) was carried out with six different sponsors, and split into three lots, each requiring the supply of materials supply, civil engineering, building construction, installation of the various 225/30 kV substations and their commissioning. In total, our experts built two 225/30 kV substations in Gambia, five 225/30 kV substations in Guinea and four 225/30 kV substations in Guinea-Bissau.

"This major supranational power infrastructure connection project launched in 2017 concludes this year, after six years of construction, with the operational commissioning of the last four substations in Guinea-Bissau. We are proud to have helped make energy flow between the countries of West Africa. Thanks to the Energy Project supported by OMVG, 28 million people now have access to electricity," said International Project Manager Éric Faucompré

The interconnecting line crossing the four program countries is itself connected to Linsan substation in Guinea, on the Transco CLSG interconnection network that runs through Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
