Dorsalys delivers a high-voltage line to the FEDA electricity grid operator in Andorra
The FEDA (
Forces Elèctriques d'Andorra) entrusted our Dorsalys experts with building a new underground and overhead line (2 x 110 kV + fiber optics) to triple the capacity of the high-voltage line connecting the Encamp, Ransol and Grau Roig substations. The challenge was met in two years, as the work, carried out in high mountain terrain, has just been successfully completed.
After careful planning and modelling of the site by our Design Office, with due respect for the environment and its flora and fauna, our lineworkers have just finished installing overhead cables on pylons, while a second team was in charge of rolling out the cables for the underground part of the project. Overhead work on the double high-voltage line (2 x 110 kV) took place in three stages:
1. 20 ha of trees felled, foundations and earthworks built by Andorran civil engineering companies,
2. Helicopter lift of pylon elements built by Eiffage Energía and assembly by our aerial erectors,
3. Unwinding, anchoring and testing of 120 km of conductor cables by our French experts (+ 4 km of power cables for the underground links to the substations).
“The new line, running 18 km through high mountain terrain, involved carefully felling trees in a 60 m wide corridor, and its route was optimized to keep the infrastructures' environmental impact to a minimum. The overhead section of the line is supported by 69 pylons designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape," explained Business Manager Julien Virlouvet.
Our employees, working in synergy on this high mountain site (2,120 to 1,250 m altitude), had to orchestrate the beaconing of the line so that it could cross an aerial corridor. They also ensured mechanical protection of the structure located in a corridor prone to avalanches and rockfalls.
Despite sometimes extreme conditions, they pulled off a genuine technical feat to create this high-voltage line capable of absorbing the surplus energy production made necessary by Andorra's growing population.
